vintage long body neumann u47 purchased from the grandson of the original owner and delivered straight to david brown of “neumann microphone repairs” here in los angeles. david was recommended by numerous top engineers in the area and is one of the most trusted repairmen for vintage neumann microphones. the tube was a bit noisy at first, but david cleaned the tube sockets and heated up the tube to burn off any oxidation that had accumulated over the years, and it sounds great now. i spent $500 on this service and have all of the paperwork to show for it.
as can be seen in the photos, one of the capsule screws still had the original wax covering, showing that the capsule hadn't been opened since the day it was purchased. i chose to open the capsule cage and break the seal to show the condition of the capsule itself in the photos, which looks great. the only aesthetic imperfection is the etching on the bottom front shell of the microphone, which can be seen in the photos. Otherwise, it looks almost flawless.

vintage maestro echoplex em1 “groupmaster” tape echo. unit is in excellent functional condition, with the only signs of wear on the outer Tolex. screws and hardware were replaced, all pots and inputs cleaned, motor bearing/spindle cleaned and greased, tape heads cleaned, pinch roller tension calibrated. sounds amazing and is the premier studio unit in the echoplex series.
